A Story to be SHARED...

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled
children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that
would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the
school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not
interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is
done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as
other children do He cannot understand things as other children
do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?"

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. "I believe that when a child like Shay,
physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an
opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it
comes in the way other people treat that child."

Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay
knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they'll let
me play?" Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want
someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood
that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a
much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted
by others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked
(not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for
guidance and said, "We're losing by six runs and the game is in the
eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put
him in to bat in the ninth inning."

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile,
put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his
eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at his
son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team
scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the
ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field.
Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to
be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his
father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth
inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases
loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was
scheduled to be next at bat.
At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance
to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone
knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even
know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing
that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in
Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay
could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung
clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to
toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung
at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder
and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay
would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's
head, out of reach of all team mates. Everyone from the stands and
both teams started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!"
Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to
first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!" Catching his
breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling
to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second
base, the right fielder had the ball ... the smallest guy on their
team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He
could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but
he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally
threw the ball high and far over the third- baseman's head. Shay
ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him
circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help
him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted,
"Run to third! Shay, run to third!"

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the
spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay, run home! Run
home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as
the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.
"That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his
face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love
and humanity into this world".

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having
never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and
coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero
of the day!

Think think think. Write write write. There's so much to say but no time to think it through. Well, for starters I shall begin by saying how much I miss Sydney. Okay I know this is not something new and probably by now its getting abit tired on the ears. I used to think (and I still do sometimes) it was more of the friends and freedom that I missed. It wasn't so much of the place. But now I think about it, maybe it was the place. I miss the feeling you get of knowing a place so well that you feel comfortable walking around alone aimlessly. I know I've lived almost all my life (minus the 5years spent in Syd) in Singapore and I should feel the same here .... but I don't. There's always this feeling of 'have to be somewhere' or 'have to have a purpose'. Maybe its just me.
Then the other feeling I missed is the feeling of winter. (okay for this part, it doesn't necessarily be because of Sydney - anywhere that is cold). I miss the feeling of cold rush that you get when you just step out of the house in the morning and the cold wind hits your face. Or the desire of getting into your warm bed at night. Sigh...ok so maybe all these things are just superficial. I guess home is where the heart is. But right now, I don't even know where my heart is. Singapore is good and I love it here. But for now, I wanna travel. But where, I have no idea...

Happy Halloween!!!
Trick or Treat!

Wednesday, October 18

Gee how time flies. Its 2months to Christmas. So much has happened this year and I can't believe the year is coming to its end. Over the past week, I attended 2 weddings. Both were of my collegues. People I don't really know that well. However weddings are all the same. 2 people starting off their journey as one. The wedding day is the most magical day in one's life (more so for us girls). But when you think about it. Marriage is what happens after that. Going through life with that one person you chose to share it with. Being there through all the ups and downs. Being with that one person who most probably and should know you the best. This is what marriage is. And that's the whole beauty. You know how, sometimes when you're doing or see something, something inside you triggers and you stop and think about YOUR life. Well, weddings does it for me. Everytime Im at a wedding I think of how it'd be like for mine. I guess its a very natural thing to do and I assume most girls fantasize about it. On one hand, I can't wait to get married and settle down, but the more I think about it, I think I'm just fantasizing on the idea of getting married, not marriage itself. The excitement of chosing the hotel, motifs, themes and design for the invitations and stuff is all so fun. =)

Anyways..weddings and births are always the good side of things. Talking about birth, my cousin is pregnant once again. She just got married early March this year and was pregnant with twins. The twins are barely 5mths old and now she's pregnant again. Well, she's young and fertile! =)
With what's happening to the world, to friends and families, I'm begining to realise that life is really really short. You really need to enjoy it and treasure it while you can. Love one another and treasure them as well.

~ (edit)

Got bored at work, so started reading sypnosis of one of my favourite tvshow: GILMORE GIRLS. After finding out that my great grandfather's surname was Gilmore (great grandma remarried a de Rozario after that) I find myself my drawn to this show. I'm a Gilmore girl! =) okok so the girls are back with the 7th Season. Read the first 5 episode guides and I want to watch them NOW! Alot has happened. I shaln't ruin it for u guys (don't know who watches them). =)

Goin to take a power nap. HAH! like I can...back to work.

NCPI ACADEMY!!

Aww man..what a week. I was literally filled up with work..sleeping at about 2am most nights finishing up reports, preparing for meetings, presentation and discussions, and reading up on latest golf news. SIGH!Here's why. I was at NCPI Academy! Its a sales training that my company decided to send me to. Sure the experience of it is GREAT but the they didn't warn us the amount of work. Anyways, the good news is that I treated myself to Russel Peters on saturday with Dad. Russel Peters is one wicked Indian Canadian comedian. He was dissing the Indians a hell lot last sat. There was one that kinda stuck in my head. He was saying that you can tell which part of India a person is from by looking at their colour. The darker you are, the more south you're from. Those that come from SOUTH south is so black that even black people would call them black. Also even their shadows will get confused. "Who's following who". hehehe...There were so many jokes that I don't know where to begin. =P Go get his DVD people, saves me the time.
Well during this whole week of training something occured to me. Girls...remember the time when we were talking about where we'd be in the future. Mags will be off somewhere in her OWN hospital managing her doctors and also performing surgeries after surgeries. Debs will be off somewhere hosting some doctor convention. Then when it came to me, you guys pictured me running from meetings to meetings, phone calls after phone calls from people trying to get meetings with me. Basically a very busy business woman. And that's what it was like the past week. hahaha..ain't that funny. The funniest part is, its most likely going to be like that in the next few years!!

Monday, September 25

Helo people, im back here to blog. I know i haven't been penning down my actions lately and I apologise for that..So today I didn't bother to go out for lunch. I sat down in front of my computer and starting reading my past blogs. Boy was life alot simpler. I had a purpose in life! Sure there were exams to study for, books needed to be read, reports needed to be compiled, but everything was for a reason..
to get that darn Degree
As for now, there's nothing infront of me. Day in day out, its just work!
7.30am Wake up
8.15am Leave the house
9am Log in. Work!
1pm Lunch
6pm Log out! HOME

That's my daily routine for 5 days a week. What happens at night isn't really that impressive. Its usually spent in front of the telly, wasting the night away. I guess the main thing that gets me going every day is the money Im making which hopefully is cleverly saved for my future. Sigh.
Okay talk about work. Last Friday, I experienced something really scary but so part of life. My work was experiencing an organisation reshuffle. So what happened?! We lost 3 really great employees. 2 of which are very close to me. So it was heart renching and sad. Felt very bad at the same time. To still have a job when others have lost it. Life is really not fair.=(

Wednesday, September 20

Again, surrounded by the four walls of my department forcing thoughts of the unconscious to arise. So what am I doing here? Am I happy here? Hmm..IL let myself ponder on that more.
Yesterday, I went for yet another spa. Yeap..that's me, Lady of Leisure. hehehe...been trying all the 'first trials' at different spa locations. Don't know if I'll ever sign up for a package with any of them tho. hehehe..Altho,I might consider the one at Bangkok. I think that one still takes the cake.=) Yesterday's spa thing was different tho. We had a body scrub, a steam bath and a full body massage. Everything in total took about 2hour plus. Boy did I sure feel relaxed after that. =)
Now apart from all the massages and destress techniques that I've been applying, nothing much 'interesting' has been happening. I just reformatted my computer (too many bugs), so bringing it back to its original state (downloading softwares that made it buggy in the first place - sigh) is taking up some of my time. My other time is gone to reading the Davinci Code. I finally subjected myself to reading that book before watching the movie. The book has proven to be very very interesting so far.
Oh I think I failed to mention, at work there's this new ruling in place.

Late for work 20 cents
Angry at a customer 20 cents
Farting on office grounds 20 cents

Staying sane and stressfree PRICELESS!!!

The first few times, I tried, TRIEd to be early. I even thought of taking a cab to work, but then I thought, why pay $6 to get to work early when I just have to pay 20c if I'm late. From that day on, I think I've only been early to work 3x. How sad is it that I'm proud to be known as Miss Always-Late. hehehe...WELL, it wasn't me who put in place this new rule. It doesn't really affect me much if I'm late by a couple of minutes. I don't really start work WORK, till about 10 anyways. =P

ANYWHOOO...I'm in need for another holiday. I've been having dreams of being away in some foreign land...that's how badly I need one. hehehe..One night, I'm whisked away to Thailand, having a shopping spree, the next night, I'm off to Sydney, having tea and gossip sessions with my girlfriends, the next, I'm back in Paris, with the boy, overlooking Paris from the Eiffel tower. The holiday dreaming goes on and on..If only this was real and that I can physically be swept off my feet and be taken to every place I want to go. WAKE UP NER!!! WAKE UP!!!

Monday, September 18
